Challenges and Blessings

For many folks, this time in history is one of tremendous challenge and change. Many individuals are being forced to make decisions that they thought they would never have to make. The decision to sell a beloved home, the need to relocate in order to find work, adult children moving back home again or downsizing in order to pay off debts.

Whatever one’s challenge may be, what if within that challenge was a blessing in disguise? What if, underneath the sacrifices individuals were making, there was freedom for them to follow up on the dreams they held so close to their hearts but had tucked away because of other responsibilities? What if we stopped struggling and resisting with what was happening, and instead allowed ourselves to collapse into the struggle and consent to what was happening? Would that make a difference?

Those who have surrendered and asked for divine guidance have ended up living lives that were far more expansive than they could have ever imagined. Often, we surround ourselves with so much stuff we think we need, that ironically it creates a prison for us, encumbering our movement. The beautiful home we always wanted ended up being far more time consuming than we imagined it would be. Instead of rejoicing in the luxury of having so much, often folks talk about the burden of having so much. Wishing they could close the door on all the added responsibilities and walk away.

It’s interesting to note that many folks, who have lost their jobs, when asked if they were happy with their jobs, often said that they weren’t. Once they were able to settle down enough and know that they would be OK, that’s when they saw the blessing in their challenge.

This is an invitation to you, for whatever it is that you are facing, to perhaps, slow down enough to step away from your reactivity and ask yourself these questions, “Have I always been take care of?” “Am I really happy in the current situation that I am in?” “Is there something more I would like in my life?” Listen to your deep inner knowingness. You may be very surprised with what you hear. Then you can surrender and be guided.

This article is based on the words found on page 69, Challenges and Blessings, of Catherines’s newly released book of heart whispers, “The Soul of the Heart". To review the beautiful, heart-filled pages of “The Soul of the Heart” and to listen to a section of the accompanying meditation CD visit http://TheSoulOfTheHeart.com/bookspecial

OWA: FUNCTIONAL MEDICINE

On of the health services offered on ONLINE WELLNESS ASSOCIATION is FUNCTIONAL MEDICINE. Functional Medicine is an evolution in the practice of medicine that better addresses the healthcare needs of the 21st century. By shifting the traditional disease-centered focus of medical practice to a more patient-centered approach, functional medicine addresses the whole person, not just an isolated set of symptoms. Functional medicine practitioners spend time with their patients, listening to their histories and looking at the interactions among genetic, environmental, and lifestyle factors that can influence long-term health and complex, chronic disease. In this way, functional medicine supports the unique expression of health and vitality for each individual. Functional medicine practitioners promote wellness by focusing on the fundamental underlying factors that influence every patient’s experience of health and disease. Functional Medicine is where the best of Western medicine meets the long traditions of Eastern Medicine.

OWA: FEEDBACK

In January ONLINE WELLNESS ASSOCIATION will move into its fourth year. If you have never really taken the time to browse the pages of OWA, I would like to invite you to visit the website at http://www.onlinewellnessassociation.com. Each year I think I am working all the kinks out of the site, but new technology comes out and I feel like I am behind again. I would really appreciate having your opinion on anything about the ONLINE WELLNESS ASSOCIATION SITE. In particular I am interested in the following:

1. How effective do you think the Professional Directory is?
2. What do you think of the HOME page graphics, colors, text, etc?
3. In the “become a member” “apply”, what is your opinion about how the directions are given to join OWA?
4. What are your thoughts about the yearly membership fees?
5. Do you think we need to start advertising on the site? If, yes, what kind of businesses would you want to see?

Commenting on at least these five areas would help me determine the changes that need to be made in the upcoming months. Any feedback and insight is always welcome.

PREDITORS ONLINE

One of the benefits of being a member of ONLINE WELLNESS ASSOCIATION is being able to blog and post articles. The following is a reprint of one of the first articles published by a member of ONLINE WELLNESS ASSOCIATION. It is still pertinent today:

ONLINE PREDATORS & SCAMS:
What Every Practitioner Needs to Know

A Report by OWA Member: Michael McKinley, C. Ht.

Nearly every day we hear the horror stories. Some are about predators who engage and victimize young people online. Others, show trusted counselors, who have betrayed their adult clients through fraud or exploitation. Currently, the Internet has flooded cyberspace with online practitioners preying on the unsuspecting and vulnerable person in crisis who does not know how to verify the credentials of “professionals” who advertise their services online. Who do you trust?

This is a natural consequence of our modern technological society. Therapists, counselors, and other wellness providers are now able to reach right into our living rooms by offering services online, often in communities where services are not currently available. Just as it is easy for qualified practitioners to offer services, it is easy for the unqualified, uncredentialed, or even criminal individual to attract people in an unregulated environment such as the Internet.

How can the average person know for certain whether or not an online professional has the education, experience, or credentials to provide services?

Who am I?
